Still in denial, and in the midst of plans to sail around the world, Desiree finds herself at the doors of an alcohol rehabilitation centre. Her mind goes into overdrive.

Hold on!!! This is not right!!! I am a professional, an accountant. I hold down an important job. I have plans, big plans. I am going sailing. I AM FINE!!!!

And then she sees that mirror again. It had been following her around lately. And in the mirror...she sees desperate eyes, a bloated pasty face, an overweight middle aged woman having a panic attack.

In this prequel to her first book about her sailing adventures (A Harrowing Journey) Desiree tells us about what happened...before. Told with brutal honesty, The Mirror reveals the author's life journey from a rootless childhood in Sweden, India, Jamaica and Brazil to a roller coaster existence all over the world and eventually downward into alcoholism. It is the story of one woman's journey to the brink and back. It is a story of life, adventure, love, alcoholism and redemption.

It is also a story of hope.
