Set in the near future, David Moore is a decorated war veteran who uses his connections and a friend's engineering ingenuity to build a company that becomes integral to American national security. Born into a lower-class background, through luck and hard work he rises in prominence and power until, finally, he is elected President of the United States. Economic malaise and constant partisan gridlock have led the United States into a state of stagnation. Voters, eager for anything new, elect David, a political independent, to the highest office in the land. The action bounces back and forth between the present and Moore's past, and readers are able to track David's backstory until finally the narratives meet in one explosive climax. This book drops readers into the middle of a terrifying nuclear attack on the United States, during which the President is strangely absent. The author, a Texas native who served in both the Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force, brings both his military experience and his current work in the security industry to bear in crafting an intricate plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seat until the end. This novel will appeal to any and all fans of military, espionage, or spy thrillers. Those readers looking for rich, detailed scientific and engineering content will not be let down; in fact, this type of material catalyzes the plot, especially as the book moves towards its culmination. But this book also will draw in readers who enjoy character-driven plots, as David's personality develops throughout the course of the novel, as he experiences successes and failures, joys, and heartbreaks.
