What happens when science - which ought to be the free pursuit of truth - turns into a closed, dogmatic system? This is no ordinary question. It is the question that drives this book. And the answer, as you'll see, is unsettling.
It all began under a fig tree. There, as a child, the author wondered where it all came from - the sky, the stars, life, herself. That question followed her for decades, through journalism school, through the classroom as an art teacher, through countless readings and late-night study sessions. Until she noticed something disturbing: the science that was supposed to answer that question wasn't really interested in all possible answers. There was an unspoken rule, an invisible boundary, a line that could not be crossed.
