Day 9: Before and After Eph. 6:11-12
I used to be dead. I lived like the world and was led by my flesh and the devil. I pursued passionate desires. My will was bent towards every little impulse to fulfill my lust. I was filled with guilt, regret, and shame. I believed I was living, but I was a walking dead man. The good news is that God is filled with an abundance of kindness and mercy! He loved me even when I was against him. He loved me in my disobedience. Before I ever knew him, God made a way to give me life by sending Jesus to die for my rebellion and sins. He offered me his love and grace. Because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I am no longer dead. I'm alive! I don't live for the flesh but after Christ and holiness. My will isn't bent towards lustful passions but towards God's supreme will. No longer am I filled with condemnation. Now I'm filled with freedom and peace. Before his grace entered my life, I was dead. Now, I am alive and united with Christ.
Father, because I have received your grace, I have been transformed into a brand-new person.1 I am no longer dead. I have come to life! I'm not the man I was. You have changed my identity. So now, Holy Spirit, mold me into the man you
have created me to be!
Day 23: Pleasing God 1 Thess. 2:4
Who am I trying to please? Too often I am a people-pleaser. This isn't always a bad thing. I want my boss to be pleased with my work on the job. I want my future spouse to be pleased with me as we do life together. I want peace with my friends and family members, so I avoid conflict. The Apostle Paul essentially said, Hey, we are boldly speaking about the Gospel whether people like it or receive it. We're not trying to get their approval. We're preaching because that is what God has called us to do. When pleasing others starts to hinder me from doing what God has called me to do, then there is a problem. I can't let the opinions and opposition of other people hinder me from living my life completely for God. I can't let the ideologies of the culture influence my decisions. I can't even let the approval of close family or friends curtail the work of God in my life. No, I live to please God; therefore, I will follow his leading in every area of my life no matter what!
God, I like pleasing those around me, but I want to please you more! It can be difficult to go against the grain of my friends' or family's opinions, but if I'm walking with you, nothing else matters. Holy Spirit, give me the strength to be bold for you. You know what is best for me, so I choose to follow your leading everywhere. When a tough situation arises or a tough decision needs to be made, give me the wisdom I need. I surrender my life to you.
