What is a ground wart? It's an interesting compilation of words to create a nickname, isn't it? It is a nickname farmers use for a dirt clod. The Ground Wart With No Friends is a story about finding friendship. We all need our friends and often the journey to find a best friend is filled with ups and downs. Ground Wart seeks friendship with various animals, but they hardly notice him. The story also introduces children to one of the most devastating weather phenomena which is the drought. It touches upon a period when the Dust Bowl gripped the nation in the first half of the nineteen thirties. It provides some vocabulary terms and discussion points as the story of Ground Wart moves along. I invite you to come along with Ground Wart on his search for a friend!
