The Great Hunger is a novel written by Norwegian author Johan Bojer. The book tells the story of a farming family in rural Norway during the late 1800s, who are struggling to survive during a period of famine known as the great hunger. The family's patriarch, Ola, is a hardworking farmer who is determined to keep his family fed and alive, despite the harsh conditions they face. His wife, Kari, is equally determined to help her family, but the strain of the famine begins to take its toll on her health. Their son, Anders, is torn between his loyalty to his father and his desire to pursue his own dreams. As the famine worsens, the family is forced to make difficult decisions in order to survive. The Great Hunger is a powerful and moving story of resilience, sacrifice, and the human spirit in the face of adversity.Ah! till now your mind has been so filled with cold mechanics, with calculations, with steel and fire. More and more knowledge, ever more striving to understand all things, to know all, to master all. But meanwhile, the tones of the hymn died within you, and the hunger for that which lies beyond all things grew ever fiercer and fiercer. You thought it was Norway that you needed--and now you are here. But is it enough? This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
