An action-packed true story of perseverance in the wilds of Africa. Suddenly our circumstances changed from serenity to bedlam. Francois darted over to the edge of the high bluff looking for a safe exit. He and Will then plunged over the hill. Kisenga frantically motioned for me to follow him over the side. I threw caution to the wind and slid down the 50-foot ravine with no regard for life or limb. Will, Francois, and Kisenga began sprinting after the elephants. I tried to keep up but running on the hot sandy riverbed was tiring and I began to run out of steam. Just as I reached the opposite bank, I heard a noise coming from behind me. Was it friend or foe? I turned to see. Luckily it was our cameraman toting the unwieldy 50 lb. camera. I kept pace with him until we got into the seven-foot grass, then I suddenly lost sight of everyone. I was lost, and all alone. A helpless unnerving feeling of pure unadulterated panic came over me. I stood frozen in fear hoping someone friendly would find me before the wild animals did.
