The Disputed V.C.: A Tale Of The Indian Mutiny is a historical novel written by Frederick P. Gibbon in 1904. The story is set during the Indian Mutiny of 1857, a rebellion against the British East India Company's rule in India. The novel revolves around the main character, Captain George Lawrence, who is awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the mutiny. However, his award is disputed by another officer, Lieutenant Henry Daly, who claims that Lawrence's actions were not as heroic as they seem. The story follows Lawrence's attempts to clear his name and prove his bravery, while also facing challenges from Daly and other antagonists who seek to discredit him. Along the way, Lawrence falls in love with a woman named Ethel, who becomes a source of strength and support for him. The novel provides a detailed account of the events of the Indian Mutiny, including the political and social tensions that led to the rebellion, the battles that took place, and the aftermath of the conflict. It also explores themes of honor, loyalty, and courage, as well as the impact of war on individuals and society. Overall, The Disputed V.C. is a gripping and informative historical novel that offers a vivid portrayal of a significant period in India's history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
