The Confessions Of The Countess Of Strathmore is an autobiographical book written by Mary Eleanor Bowes, the Countess of Strathmore, in 1793. The book details the life of the Countess from her childhood to her marriage and the subsequent abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, Andrew Robinson Stoney. The book is divided into three parts. The first part details the Countess's early life, her education, and her marriage to Stoney. The second part focuses on the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, including physical violence and emotional manipulation. The third part describes the Countess's escape from Stoney and her subsequent legal battles to regain control of her estate.Throughout the book, the Countess is candid about her experiences and emotions, providing readers with an intimate look into her life. She also discusses the societal expectations placed on women during her time and the challenges she faced as a woman trying to assert her independence. The Confessions Of The Countess Of Strathmore is a groundbreaking book for its time, as it was one of the first autobiographical works written by a woman in the English language. It remains a powerful and compelling account of one woman's struggle for freedom and independence in a society that sought to control and oppress her. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
