We care about that for which we have feelings. If our children grow up with no feeling of connection to nature, or a sense of their place in nature, then they will not care deeply enough to protect it. In The Chewies, the latest book for very young children from naturalist educator Josef Partners, the author continues to sow the seeds of humanitarian, animal and environmental stewardship in young children and their parents. The Chewies introduces children to some of the most beloved members of the Chisel Tooth Family, including Ari Squirrel, Annarell Rabbit and King Beaver, who help children realize their own connection to the natural world. Like Partners' first book, KK's Hope, this animal fantasy is both entertaining and educational. Partners' charming, rhyming text and Rachael Mahaffey's wonderfully whimsical illustrations make The Chewies the perfect book for reading aloud and bedtime storytime. Parents and mentors should be prepared to hear Can you read it just one more time, pleeeze?!
