Michael Abney's two-year-old son, Gordon, has begun behaving in ways no one can explain.

Sleepless nights and mounting tension pull apart a marriage already under strain. Michael, a writer who has not written in months, begins to understand that whatever is in the house with them came for his family long before he was born.

To face it, he will have to say out loud what his family has never been able to name.

The Cherale is a novella about inheritance, silence, and what grows in a house where nothing gets said. Horror built from atmosphere and accumulation rather than shock, set in the ordinary rooms of a working-class Ontario family.

Lance Marwood is a writer by trade, living in Hamilton, Ontario. He came up in Toronto's hardcore punk scene and has written for V13.net since 2015. The Cherale is his debut novella.
