After an accident in the family market, Hans had to make a trip into Ganz, Austria to buy a piece of glass. While walking to the city, he happened to get a ride from a neighbor who was going into the city to sell honey and beeswax. After taking the beeswax to the candle shop Hans met Anna who worked next door at the dress shop. Shortly afterwards, Hans became an apprentice at a candle shop and a romance began between the two of them.
