NYPD detective JL O'Grady is ready to trade the gritty streets of New York for the sun-drenched vineyards of Napa Valley. She's looking forward to watching her brother Austin play in a basketball tournament, attending Montgomery Winery's harvest gala, and leaving her badge-and her recent divorce-behind for a few days.
Instead, she walks straight into a murder investigation.
The victim bears an unsettling connection to a racketeering and drug case in New York that nearly ended JL's career. The local police make it clear she isn't welcome in their investigation, but JL's instincts tell her this isn't a coincidence. And when it comes to protecting her family, she doesn't care about jurisdiction.
She finds an unexpected ally in Kevin Allen, the composed CFO of MacKlenna Corporation. Kevin is trying to find his place within the organization, and he brings a calm, analytical edge that balances JL's fierce, instinct-driven approach. As they work together to unravel the conspiracy, the danger escalates, and a moment of vulnerability between them sets off a chain reaction they never saw coming.
When Austin goes missing in the winery's vast cave system, the stakes turn deadly. The search for him triggers a massive kidnapping plot that ensnares the MacKlenna clan, forcing JL and Kevin into a desperate rescue mission.
The Broken Brooch is a contemporary romantic suspense. The brooch's purpose of bringing soul mates together remains, but with its magic broken, the adventure unfolds entirely in the present-where the danger is all too real.
