As the battle raged on the streets of Dublin during the momentous events of Easter Week 1916 between the rebels and the British forces, the British attempted to maintain a strict censorship over news coming out of Dublin and control the reporting being delivered especially to US newsreaders. With the Defense of The Realm Act curbing press freedom in Ireland and Britain, the British invited a diverse American press pack to enter the war torn city but their control quickly evaporated and the press pack reported at will and enjoyed their all expenses journey to the Irish capital
