這兩處經文告訴我們，這個道在太初就有。他就是神，又與神同在。萬物是借著他而創造，凡被造的，沒有一樣不是借著他造的。生命在他的裡頭，這生命就是人的光。但這位道離天降世，道成了肉身，住在我們中間，充充滿滿地有恩典有真理。從他身上帶著榮光，正是父獨生子的榮光。他把恩典和真理賜給我們，使我們領受了恩上加恩。從來沒有人看見神，只有這位道的到來，將父神表明出來。因為約翰福音開宗明義地告訴我們，道與時間的關係，道與神的關係，道與萬物的關係，道與生命的關係。道又成了肉身，住在我們中間。要明白這些關係，我們必須先要明白何謂：道。
