Typee is a novel written by Herman Melville that was first published in 1846. The book is a fictionalized account of Melville's own experiences living among the Typee people on the island of Nuku Hiva in the South Pacific. The protagonist, Tommo, is a sailor who jumps ship and finds himself stranded on the island.
