Twinkie and Hopi, two young Grand Canyon mules have now been at this great National Park for three years. During that time they have carried tourists, supplies, wranglers, and National Park Rangers up and down the steep canyon trails and proven themselves intelligent, sure-footed, and capable to carry out any task assigned to them. As winter approaches the mule barn receives a call that an animal has run off with medicine needed by one of the children visiting the Phantom Ranch Lodge at the bottom of the canyon. Twinkie and Hopi are needed to get the medicine down the steep 11 mile Bright Angel Trail as a sudden storm is approaching from the west. If these two brave mules reach the Lodge they will then be tasked with being part of the team which trails the animal and attempts to relocate it outside the tourist area. Twinkie and Hopi will be joined by Ruth and Hank, two mules who live and work on the opposite side of the Little Colorado River at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Join these 4 mules as they explore the bottom of the Grand Canyon along the riverbank and surrounding hill country, all the while looking for tracks which will identify the canyon interloper.
