Chaque jour, nous percevons le monde avec nos sens. Nous voyons des objets, entendons des sons, touchons des surfaces. Tout cela semble si immédiat et si concret ! Mais est-ce vraiment la réalité ? Ou sommes-nous simplement en train de naviguer dans une petite partie d'un univers composé de multiples niveaux, visibles et invisibles ? Les connaissances modernes et anciennes, physiques et métaphysiques, nous invitent à réfléchir à cette éternelle question.
Notre expérience quotidienne limite souvent notre compréhension. Nous sommes habitués à ne reconnaître le monde qu'à travers ce que nous pouvons voir, toucher ou mesurer. Cependant, sous la surface de cette perception normale, de nombreuses autres réalités coexistent. Les réalités physiques, qui échappent à nos sens, coexistent avec des dimensions métaphysiques, chargées de sens et de mystère. Pensez au macrocosme et au microcosme: deux extrêmes dans lesquels notre vie quotidienne se dissout dans des échelles de grandeur presque incompréhensibles.
Dans le domaine physique, l'univers se révèle à plusieurs niveaux de réalité. Au niveau cosmique, nous ne pouvons qu'entrevoir l'immensité. La partie que nous pouvons voir ne représente que 5 % de l'ensemble de l'univers connu. Au niveau macroscopique, ce que nous percevons, notre réalité, semble concret. Pourtant, même un simple objet, comme une chaise, cache une vérité bien différente. À l'échelle subatomique, nous sommes confrontés à un univers de particules qui suivent des lois physiques contre-intuitives. Les expériences d'intrication quantique montrent comment, au niveau subatomique, deux particules peuvent être connectées instantanément sur de grandes distances, comme si elles ignoraient le concept d'espace et de temps. Albert Einstein et Niels Bohr ont été les premiers à ébranler les fondements de notre idée de la réalité, en tentant de répondre à la célèbre question: La Lune existe-t-elle quand personne ne la regarde ?
À côté des niveaux physiques, l'énigme de la métaphysique s'étend. La métaphysique étudie ce qui n'est pas immédiatement perceptible, s'interrogeant sur l'essence même de l'être. Les Grecs de l'Antiquité, à l'instar de Platon, imaginaient un monde d'idées, parfait et immuable, dont le monde matériel n'était qu'une faible copie. Nous nous souvenons tous de l'allégorie de la caverne: les hommes enchaînés n'entrevoyaient que des ombres sur les murs, sans jamais voir la lumière directe du vrai Soleil.
On trouve également des concepts apparentés dans les philosophies orientales. Le voile de Māyā de la tradition indienne décrit le monde phénoménal comme une illusion qui voile la véritable essence de la réalité. Les religions, le mysticisme et la spiritualité, quant à eux, interprètent cette dimension invisible comme un lieu où l'âme ou le moi se connecte à la transcendance.
Mais comment distinguer ce qui est physique de ce qui est métaphysique ? Cette question nous conduit à l'une des interrogations les plus profondes de l'histoire de la philosophie: qu'est-ce que la réalité ?
Les penseurs de la Grèce antique, comme Aristote, ont tenté de diviser le monde en substance et en accident. La substance est ce qui existe en soi, l'accident est ce qui existe en relation avec quelque chose d'autre. Leurs recherches ont jeté les bases de millénaires de spéculation.
Aujourd'hui, les scientifiques, comme les philosophes, continuent de se remettre en question. La physique moderne, par exemple, a combiné l'ontologie classique et le relativisme cognitif. Selon Werner Heisenberg, père du principe d'incertitude, l'observation elle-même modifie l'objet observé. En d'autres termes, nous ne pouvons jamais connaître la réalité de manière pure. Ce que nous percevons est toujours le reflet de notre implication dans le processus cognitif.
