What if the confidence you have been relying on is not the confidence you truly need?
Many people appear confident on the outside while privately struggling with doubt, fear, insecurity, disappointment, the need for approval, and the feeling that they are capable of more. Dr. Rick Adams calls this counterfeit confidence-a form of confidence shaped by external approval, circumstances, accomplishments, and the opinions of others.
But there is another kind of confidence: True Confidence.
In True Confidence: You Got This!, Dr. Rick Adams presents a practical and biblically grounded framework for developing a confidence that is not dependent on people, circumstances, accomplishments, or feelings. Instead, True Confidence is rooted in God and enables you to trust the abilities, gifts, and potential He has placed within you.
Drawing from more than three decades of experience as a clinician, licensed psychotherapist, college professor, and minister, Dr. Adams brings together biblical, psychological, and behavioral principles to help readers understand how their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors influence the way they live.
Throughout the book, you will discover how to:
- Understand the difference between genuine confidence and counterfeit confidence
- Recognize avoidable failures and the mindset patterns that contribute to them
- Identify negative thought distortions, mental traps, and emotional triggers
- Renew your mind and develop healthier patterns of thinking
- Stop allowing other people's opinions and approval to determine your direction
- Move beyond past mistakes, hurts, disappointments, and regrets
- Develop confidence rooted in God rather than in yourself or your circumstances
- Apply practical principles for living confidently and purposefully
- Strengthen your faith when facing fear, doubt, opposition, and uncertainty
- Recognize the forces that can undermine confidence and learn how to confront them
Dr. Adams also identifies ten major breakdowns of True Confidence: criticism, opposition, negativity, fear, intimidation, doubt, environment, naysayers, confusion, and enemies. These forces can gradually erode confidence, weaken resolve, and interfere with purpose when left unchecked.
At the heart of the book is a powerful distinction: True Confidence is not ultimately about believing in yourself apart from God. It is about believing in God first and then faithfully using the abilities He has given you. The book teaches that confidence rooted in God can withstand uncertainty, opposition, and life's challenges.
With biblical examples, psychological insights, practical principles, and an emphasis on faith in Jesus Christ, True Confidence challenges readers to stop living beneath their potential and begin walking boldly in their God-given purpose.
If fear has caused you to hesitate, if doubt has made you question your abilities, if the opinions of others have controlled your decisions, or if you know there is more inside you than you have been able to express, this book offers a framework for changing the way you think, believe, and act.
Renew your mind. Protect your confidence. Walk by faith. Trust your God-given abilities. Fulfill your purpose.
