Perhaps the largest book of new Asian mythology available. The 2022 Edition of the Triple Diamond Sutra ads 100+ pages of new material to the older version of the TDS tome and is the ingathering of almost all the materials from all versions of Tales of Zen Buddhist Scoundrels, Tales of Slot Machine Bodhisattvas, The Third Diamond, The Search For The Third Diamond, The Scroll of Hi Nu and Ancient Fragments from The Scrolls of To Fu. It is the culmination of thirty years of mythological writing in the Eastern vein. (See The Collected Acid Trips of Saint John The Divine, et. al., for my work on the Western side of myth-making.) If you have many of the previous books, this work will contain a lot of repetition. However, there are many new epigraphs, a new novelette and a more spacious layout than ever. Given the manic nature of such works, there were hundreds, if not thousands of typos and grammatical misfires to clean up (and this is true of similar works that are centuries old in which one still finds words left out, interpolations, copying errors and accidental deletions, etc.) The most generous use yet of blank space and blank pages is employed to give the experience a sense of slow ryhthm with lots of resting places along the way. To get the whole sense of The Great Vehicle of Mahayana Buddhism, the ancient Hindu myths are employed and changed; and appearances are made from sages of all religions, such as Taoist elders, mystic rabbis, Pentecostal preachers and Hindu adepts. Each cross the stage to contribute to the pageant. The book is at once a course in world religions and also a tour of the modes of philosophical skepticism and religious renewal. True to the tradition it emerged from, the tempo is downbeat and antinomianism and general misbehavior abounds. Having gotten my degree in Philosophy and having had my nose in the scriptures of so many religions for many decades now, I'm confident that this is the most comically-oriented attempt at creating comprehensive and irreverent approach to the unspeakable reality that permeates all things.
