After all the problems and tensions I went through in my life, none is compared to this one. I witnessed how some southerners maltreated and attempted to kill us for no fault of ours as ordinary as poor as we were. I witnessed the victimisation of the issue of indigene-ship in a place I had influential people that could help me secure a job. I suffered marginalisation in the place I was brought up. I was discriminated against by my blood relations who refused to help me further my education and secure good jobs for me. I was cheated by my in-law who refused to be paying me whenever we returned from journeys with hard labour. I was enslaved by the lawyers I worked with who did not pay me my wages. I was victimised by fear and threats of death by hoodlums for other people's actions I knew nothing about.
Here 1 am, in my hometown, where I hope to contribute my quota to the development and tranquillity of the State and people, but my aspirations are cut short because the group that was assumed extinguished manifested in battalions with weapons, killing and destroying the lives and properties of innocent people by bombarding and terrorising us. It got to a level where schools were no longer safe, people were captured and shot at close range, uncountable houses were set ablaze and many local government areas were captured and occupied by them. Several military barracks were captured and soldiers themselves were killed awkwardly, apart from the police and other security men and women. There was a point in time when we were deprived of observing some of our daily prayers, especially the Magrib, Isha and Subhi prayers by the security men who ought to protect us from the threats of the insurgents because of the curfew imposed from 5:00pm to 7:00am and 6:00pm to 7:00am respectively. We became stranded in the middle; the insurgents terrorising us on one part and the security bulldozing us on the other part.
