This book follows the fortunes of a branch of the Tresilian family from Cornwall from the time of their arrival in Ireland in the 1600s to the early 1900s by which time they had almost all emigrated. The study focuses on how they were affected by the economic developments of the time, how they integrated into the community, amassing land holdings and building up successful businesses only for many family members to see their wealth evaporate by the mid 1800s. Many shared the fate of countless other Irish emigrants forced to seek a better life elsewhere.
