The stories contained in this book are true accounts of children in India whose lives have been rescued because of one woman's dream. Pandita Ramabai saw needs around her and did all she could to meet those needs. The Mission she founded in 1889, Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission continues to rescue boys and girls and women from the ravages of poverty in India. India is a land of extreme opposites. As the economy develops and the country grows wealthier, hundreds of millions are left behind in poverty, living in slums on less than $1 per day.In these situations, women and children are the most vulnerable. Combined with this overwhelming poverty, cultural beliefs say women are less valuable. Women and children are not valued and are often abused or expelled from their homes. Mukti Mission is all too familiar with this reality!Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission's aim is to change the lives of children and destitute women through a range of initiatives that demonstrate the love of God, in a practical way. These stories based on God's demonstrates Mukti's ongoing commitment in restoring hope to women and children gripped by the hopelessness of poverty, rejection, and abandonment, renewing shattered lives by healing past scars and rebuilding life by shaping and empowering their futures.
