Vodun, Vodou, and Voodoo: What Is the Difference?
Vodun refers to African religious traditions associated especially with parts of West Africa.
Vodou commonly refers to Haitian Vodou, a distinct religion shaped by several African traditions, Haitian history, and Catholicism.
Voodoo is an English spelling associated particularly with Louisiana and other American contexts, while also becoming a broad popular label for different traditions.
Haitian Vodou developed its own spiritual system, including the lwa, and reflects complex African religious continuities and adaptations in the Caribbean.
