The year is 1990. The Trader Group's Monte Carlo Adventure is the latest in the long running adventures of the 'The Derby 9 Go To' series with not only the Derby printers going off on this exotic five day work break. They are joined by all 409 of the Trader's Ad Girls as well as the company owner Mrs Hanley and its four directors. No expense is spared as Mrs Hanley funds two Boeing 707's to fly everyone to the French Riviera from the East Midlands, with all the group staying at the best hotel in Monte-Carlo. She organises another fashion show where the world's biggest fashion gurus descend on the Riviera's jewel in the crown, to see the Derby 9 and all the Ad girls take part. Everything is going smoothly until there's a shock arrival at the fashion show gala dinner. Unbeknown to Mrs Hanley, Dave Wilde, the Controller of the East Midlands based newspaper group, has travelled from Derby to Monte-Carlo to propose to the newspaper owner, right in front of the star studded A-list of fashion house celebrities as well as the Trader staff.The trip to Monte-Carlo is packed with incident, drama, intrigue and some skulduggery. Prince Rainier III is at the Grand Casino to officially open the gala evening but his welcoming speech is hi-jacked by three scousers who are part of an organisation to make everyone talk in scouse. And so the Prince delivers his speech, not in French, but in scouse, much to the dismay and bewilderment of all the invited guests.You may remember Agents Camembert and Hepplewhite from my other books. Well, their mission was to apprehend the scousers and capture their cunning scouse voice conversion kit, which they did. But it was the Trader Ad Girls and the Derby 9 who saved the day, or should that be night, when they formed a human shield around the Prince and managed to usher him to safety. The Prince rewarded the Ad Girls and the Derby 9 with the Legion d'honor medal, which he bestowed on them all at the Palace at a special ceremony and then invited them to watch Monaco's first match of the season against local rivals Nice at the local stadium the following night. Bev, one of the most experienced Ad girls, has a brief holiday romance with one of the young barmen while Mick, one of the Derby 9, goes to Nice to find out at the records office, if his old girlfriend, Michelle Caballeros who he met in the Pyrenees, is still married and still living in the area, which she is. Rachel one of the Ad girls and Mick land contracts with Louis Vuitton and Prada respectively, after their appearance at the fashion show while Dave Wilde suddenly has second thoughts about whether he has done the right thing about getting married to Mrs Hanley, a rich, powerful woman who always likes to get her own way. Only time will tell. This is award wining journalist Mark Bishop's biggest book in the Derby 9 series and should keep the reader amused and intrigued throughout.
