First published in 1814, this volume offers an illustrated catalog of the Townley Collection, one of the premier collections of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture in the world. The collection was assembled by the wealthy English antiquarian Charles Townley (1737-1805) and bequeathed to the British Museum upon his death. This book provides a glimpse into the tastes and interests of elite collectors in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as well as a survey of some of the most iconic works of classical art.
