Times are changing for the Kiowa tribe.
It is the late 1800's and the tribe is caught in the middle of a challenging period in history. They are caught between their sworn enemies the Osage tribe, and white settlers who are slowly encroaching more and more into their ancestral lands. It is all the Kiowa can do to stay together and united in such times. But such times bring out the best and brightest in some men.
It is in these challenging times that the Kiowa appoint Little Mountain as their principal chief. He takes over from the previous Kiowa chief, Islandman after a disastrous debacle against the Osage. Little Mountain will lead the tribe through many conflicts. The prominent war chief White Bear also rises to power in these times. It is men like these who will lead the tribe and inevitably forge their destiny and that of their people.
