This final course project is the result of research that aimed to understand the relationship between tourism, popular festivals and identities, based on an analysis of the Festa do Mastro in Capela/SE, between 2012 and 2015. The research sought to analyse the historical origins of the festival and some aspects of its historical process, with the aim of presenting the characteristic elements of this celebration, its main characters and the transformations and continuities that have occurred in this celebration of Saint Peter in the locality in question. The festival analysed here is part of the June calendar of the state of Sergipe and is a tourist attraction in the area.
