This collection brings together three volumes of poetry: A Thousand Natural Shocks (2019), Quietus (2019), and This Mortal Coil (2019), as a complete representation of poetry written from January 2000 to May 2000. The volumes are presented in non-sequential order in this collection, with A Thousand Natural Shocks (January 2000 to February 2000) followed by Quietus (March 2000 to May 2000) and, in turn, followed by This Mortal Coil (February 2000 to March 2000). This re-ordering culminates with the last volume in light of its epigraph, in which Hamlet relates dying to sleeping and the extent that a sleep of death brings forth dreams when we cast off our mortal coil. That mortal coil is the culmination of the broader theme of this collection of the three volumes, since the volumes presents the author's prolific output in the Spring months of 2000. These were, for the author, the torrents of spring.
