In August 1967 a young man was killed whilst carrying arms of war on behalf of an organisation known as UmKhonto We Sizwe, an army whose inaugural Paramount Chief was Nelson Mandela. This young man was the first person to die whilst carrying arms of war for the struggle and his body lies in an unknown pauper's grave somewhere in Zimbabwe. His death was the trigger that inspired the creation of this work which is written to record the suffering of ordinary folk in this transition of political power.
