In 1992, a chance encounter with an Indian doctor in the Himalaya led Joan Pollock to devote the next 30 years of her life to working with the isolated people of the Spiti valley. Joan set up the charity Spiti Projects, working with the valley people to help improve their appalling health, education and living conditions, while preserving their Tibetan culture and Buddhist faith. She met several times with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who remains very supportive of the charity's work and aims.
This is Joan's inspiring story of life-changing experiences in this desolate, beautiful valley, with vivid impressions of a way of life that is fast disappearing in the modern world.
