From Resistance to Silence (ካብ ዋልታ ናብ ስቕታ) is a compelling novel that explores the Eritrean paradox of a proud history of resistance and the subsequent acceptance of political repression. The extraordinary courage and heroic sacrifices of the Eritrean people during the struggle driven by their unwavering belief in a better future fell to the painful disappointment of unconditional tolerance of oppression after victory. People who heroically fought in the struggle for independence are expected to stand firm against any attempt to divert from the objectives they fought for.
The Chapters cover: failure of the government to provide the basic rights and needs, the unjust wars with neighboring countries that devastated the economy and country, the unlimited military service, and the consequential mass exodus, Through engaging storytelling and vivid characterization, the novel captures the realities of Eritrea's recent history and the human experiences behind it.
Beyond its literary value, this book is a reflection on memory, sacrifice, and the unfinished aspirations of a nation. It serves as a reminder to those who witnessed these events, an eye-opening account for those unfamiliar with them, and a lasting historical testament for future generations.
