Just as World War II was beginning, the War Department authorized the building of a major air depot in the Midwest to build, service, and repair aircraft for the Army Air Corps. That depot came to be Tinker Air Force Base, and the town that an Oklahoma developer founded to service it was Midwest City. The shovels went into an Oklahoma wheatfield to build both the base and the town at the same time in 1942. This is the story of the unique partnership that arose from that beginning, and it is also a human drama of the early pioneers who built and lived in Midwest City. The author is one of those, and much of the story of Tinkertown is told through his eyes and experiences. The book also addresses the larger question, How much of who I am is where I am from? Photos from the era are included as well.
