Evidence is mounting that the global civilization we enjoy today is on the brink of a crisis, driven by expensive resources, water security issues, global warming, and the potential for military conflict, particularly in the Middle East. Author Ian Foley argues that this impending collapse is not a coincidence but a consequence of humanity's selfishness and greed, as anticipated in biblical prophecy. In the first of two volumes, Foley explores the idea that the decline of modern civilization is part of the end-times scenario described in the Bible.
Focusing on the Old Testament book of Daniel, this study examines the prophetic narrative, which begins with the Jewish exile to Babylon in the sixth century BC and traces the rise and fall of ancient empires. Daniel introduces the figure of the founder of the final empire, which will come to fruition with the return of Jesus Christ. Throughout this historical journey, Daniel illustrates the survival of the tiny nation of Israel, exactly as predicted by the prophet Jeremiah.
This volume sets the stage for understanding God's unfolding drama, revealing the progression of events up until the fall of the Roman Empire. The climax comes with the final, exhilarating revelation in Daniel 11-12, which completes the prophetic picture. The study also addresses the confusion surrounding modern end-times theologies, proposing a clearer and more coherent revelation that unites the messages of Daniel and Revelation into a single, unambiguous narrative.
