Anna Asaro has skillsets and memories that aren't from this time. Alive in 1972 in Los Angeles, she finds herself caught in a tangled web of sexual and psychological abuse from a narrowminded, bigoted father. While still a child escape was impossible but the groundwork she laid with rigorous training as a dancer opened the doorway to her path to freedom.
Still dogged within by the painful pockets of the past, she uses her artistry to work herself free of that too. She meets Yuri, the man of her heart, her soul, and those other times. Soul-forged, they break free of conventions to create their own company and travel the world.
While their union and world travel is exhilarating, all is not smooth. Anna's ex from Los Angeles can't seem to let go, creating periodic explosions and contention; while touring in Mexico City they find themselves embroiled in an ugly tangle with a famous but vile bullfighter; Yuri's deranged cousin trying to come between them while visiting his childhood home in the Crimea ends in tragedy.
Those skillsets from other times include healing knowledge from deep levels, needed as they journey. They also include realizing that they have to work out an ancient challenge from Egypt BCE with Anna's ex, a task which puzzles them all.
