A Thousand Word Love Affair: The Art of Photography is a compelling and thought provoking account of James' survival from depression and anxiety through the lens of his camera. His poem, Breathe, was written and inspired from the darkest time during his battle with his depression and is a testament to his victory. More than that though it is a battle-cry for those still in the throes of the war for their mind. Just...One...More...Breath is a reminder to attack the day moment by moment. Each moment conquered is another victory and a statement that I will not go down without a fight.
His storytelling is masterful and invites you into the life of him and his family. The picture descriptions help to welcome you into the scene and you begin to feel like you are there next to him seeing the image as it was just prior to the click of the camera shutter.
The landscapes are so stunning that they invoke a desire to seek out the spots for which the image was captured to relive the moment for the ones that are witness to them. The portraits of the wildlife reaches into the souls of the beautiful creatures and exudes their wonderful personalities. The abstract art shows the extreme diversity and talent that James Hannick brings to the photographic community. It highlights the creativity people have within themselves and represents that there is beauty all around us just waiting to be discovered and shared with the world. The world will inspire the artist to create. The creation of the art will inspire the world to create.
James' goal with A Thousand Word Love Affair: The Art of Photography was to create something that was spark conversation about mental health awareness, the beauty that surrounds us, and the tale of how a photographer fell in love with visual storytelling through the lens of a camera.
