Excerpt: ... 19.--2Due0tionj3 about an (Entrance into tlje Sorb's? 3fri&eritance, There is a bright, happy world of peace and privilege in Christ, outside which many who call themselves Christians are content to stand, and into which it is my special desire by this address to invite and persuade many to enter. It is as real as that new scene, into which the blind man passed, when the Lord had opened his eyes. It is as bright as the light of heaven around a man, and the grace of God within a man can make it. But multitudes never enter into it, and cannot believe that it is meant for them. Between them and it there is a closed door, which they may, but will not, open. Between them and it the separation is often but a small thing, but that is everything. A letter may make the difference; as when one man will say, Christ died for men, and another can say, Christ died for me. A step may make the difference; as when a man stands upon the shifting sands of his own righteousness, and another steps on to the solid rock of the righteousness which is in Christ. A look may make the difference; as when a wounded Israelite looked at his sores which the fiery serpents made, and another looked at the serpent of brass which Moses was commanded to set upon the pole. Suffer me in all love to plead with you, reason with you, think with you, about this entrance by the door into the sheepfold, where you will be for ever safe and satisfied under the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls. Groping in the dark, living among tombs, burdened with a load upon the conscience and the heart, this is not the situation in which a man should be content to live if any better condition can be found in Christ. In our inquiry it may be well to consider--1.--WHAT ARE THE CAUSES WHICH KEEP MEN OUT. The common ca...
