Delve into the life and times of Thomas Pownall, a prominent figure in 18th-century British politics and colonial administration. This biography, Thomas Pownall: M.P., F.R.S., Governor of Massachusetts Bay, Author of the Letters of Junius, meticulously chronicles Pownall's career, from his role as a Member of Parliament and Fellow of the Royal Society to his governorship of Massachusetts Bay. Explore his influence during a pivotal era in Anglo-American relations, marked by growing tensions and the eventual outbreak of the American Revolution.
Authored by Charles Assheton Whately Pownall, this book offers insights into Pownall's political thought and actions, shedding light on his perspectives on colonial governance and the evolving relationship between Britain and its American colonies. The supplement comparing the colonies under Kings George III and Edward VII adds another layer of historical context, making this an invaluable resource for scholars and anyone interested in British and American political history.
