THINGS TO KNOW AS YOU GROW: A Collection of Grandmas Poems by Yvonne Jones Grant is a security blanket and a readers keepsake. In selections for the read to me stage, pre-reading skills skills are enhanced as listeners read pictures and comprehend expressive language and tone. The wonder, curiosities, and anxieties of children are captured (I Wonder, Ill Be There) even up to youth being launched into the secondary years and beyond (I Am Different, I Know a Man, Speak It! Believe It! Receive It!). School subjects are brilliantly highlighted (Read to Succeed, Math Magicians Become Mathematicians). As selections of potential situations are read, one might exclaim, Wow! That happened to me. Now, I know what to do if it happens again. This composite of poems equip the young and old with ways to improve themselves and, consequently, the world (Special Messages from Grandma).
