The Texican is the story of a man's love for a woman and how he deals with her death at the hands of Apache Indians.

Honks decides to make an example of two Apache that stole his cattle. It was the correct decision to stop the cattle stealing, but it prompted the Apache to raid his home while he was gone and kill his family. What ensued was a tit-for-tat series of vengeful killings between Honks and the Apache which would last for years.

Honks' life is traced through his service in the Mexican-American War, his work as a range detective, his exploits as a bounty hunter, Indian fighter, scout for the Army, service with the Texas Rangers, and as a U.S. Marshal.

While Honks is satisfying his thirst for vengeance, he fails to devote any time with his step-son. The boy grows into a man without supervision and becomes a cattle rustler and gunfighter. The step-son blames Honks for the death of his father and swears vengeance on him.

The Texican is a study of emotions growing out of grief and hatred. Finally, Honks is faced with bringing to justice the boy he had failed in every respect. The climax closes the experience of two tortured souls.

Honks Pickens represents what is the best and worst of us; an imperfect man attempting to deal with his demons during a time of violence and retribution.
