This volume compiles a series of testimonials supporting the Reverend P. Thomson's candidacy for an examinership at the University of Edinburgh. These letters and statements, penned by various individuals, likely prominent figures and colleagues, highlight Thomson's qualifications, experience, and suitability for the position.
Offering a fascinating glimpse into the academic appointment processes of the 19th century, this collection provides insight into the criteria considered important for such roles and the value placed on personal endorsements within the academic community. Researchers of Scottish history, higher education, and the social networks of the time will find this a valuable primary source.
