A Terribly Strange Bed is a short story by the renowned English author, Wilkie Collins. The story is set in Paris and follows the protagonist, a young Englishman named Faulkner, who is staying in a hotel. One evening, he decides to go out to a casino and ends up winning a large sum of money. However, on his way back to the hotel, he is accosted by a stranger who invites him to a private gambling party. Faulkner agrees and is led to a luxurious apartment where he is introduced to several other men. They begin to play cards, but as the night progresses, Faulkner starts to feel uneasy. He realizes that the men are cheating and that he is in danger. He tries to leave, but the door is locked, and he is trapped. The men reveal that they plan to kill him and take his money. Faulkner manages to escape by jumping out of a window and lands in the street below. He survives but is left traumatized by the experience. A Terribly Strange Bed is a suspenseful and thrilling tale that showcases Collins' mastery of the mystery genre.THIS 22 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: The Omnibus of Adventure Volume One, by Wilkie Collins.
