Tent of the Plains is a novel written by Shannon Birch and first published in 1898. The story is set in the American West during the late 1800s and follows the lives of a group of homesteaders who have settled on the Great Plains. The main character, John Hare, is a young man who has come to the plains seeking adventure and a new life. He quickly becomes involved with the other settlers and learns the hardships of life on the plains, including drought, harsh weather conditions, and attacks from Native American tribes. As the story progresses, John falls in love with a young woman named Mary, who is also a homesteader. However, their relationship is threatened by the arrival of a wealthy landowner who wants to take over their land. John and the other homesteaders must band together to protect their homes and way of life. Tent of the Plains is a classic Western novel that explores themes of love, perseverance, and the struggle for survival in a harsh and unforgiving landscape. It provides a vivid depiction of life on the Great Plains during a pivotal time in American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
