The Knights Templar were destroyed. Their order was dissolved. Their leaders were arrested, tortured, and executed. But more than seven centuries later, the case of the Knights Templar has never truly been closed.
For nearly two hundred years, the Knights Templar stood at the center of the Crusades and medieval history. These legendary warrior monks built castles, protected pilgrims in the Holy Land, developed an extraordinary financial network across medieval Europe, and accumulated wealth and influence powerful enough to attract the attention of kings.
Then came Friday, October 13, 1307.
Acting on the orders of King Philip IV of France, Templars across France were arrested. Their property was seized. Confessions of heresy were extracted under torture. The Order was eventually dissolved, and its last grand master, Jacques de Molay, was burned at the stake.
But the destruction of the Order created one of the greatest mysteries of the Middle Ages.
What happened to the Templar treasure? Where were the knights who escaped arrest? What became of the Templar fleet? Did portions of the Order survive outside France? And how did the disappearance of the Knights Templar become connected to the Holy Grail, Baphomet, Freemasonry, secret societies, and hidden treasure?
In THE TEMPLARS: THE CASE WAS NEVER CLOSED, James P. Patterson reopens the historical investigation into the rise and fall of the Knights Templar, following the evidence from the battlefields of the Crusades to the arrests of 1307 and the execution of Jacques de Molay.
Drawing a careful line between documented Templar history and Templar legend, Patterson examines the surviving evidence behind the Order's wealth, its destruction, the missing treasure, the knights who survived, and the extraordinary legends that emerged afterward.
This is not an attempt to turn speculation into fact. It is an investigation into what history can prove, what the evidence suggests, and what remains unresolved.
For readers fascinated by Knights Templar history, the Crusades, medieval warfare, Templar treasure, the Holy Grail, secret societies, historical mysteries, and the unexplained events of medieval Europe, this book returns to the evidence behind one of history's most enduring mysteries.
