Tartuffe is a classic French play written by Jean Baptiste Poquelin, who is more commonly known by his stage name Moliere. The play is a satirical comedy that was first performed in 1664 and has since become one of the most famous works of French literature. The story of Tartuffe revolves around a wealthy man named Orgon and his family. Orgon has become infatuated with a religious hypocrite named Tartuffe, who has convinced him that he is a pious and virtuous man. Despite the objections of his family, Orgon allows Tartuffe to move into his home and even plans to marry his daughter to him.As the play progresses, Tartuffe's true nature is revealed, and it becomes clear that he is a manipulative and deceitful man who is only interested in Orgon's money and property. The family must work together to expose Tartuffe's true intentions and save their home and their future.Tartuffe is a witty and clever play that explores themes of deception, greed, and the dangers of blind faith. Moliere's writing is both entertaining and thought-provoking, and his characters are complex and well-developed. The play remains a popular work of literature and is often studied in schools and universities around the world.Moliere's The Hypocrite seduces the girl, cons the father, disinherits the son -- all in one day! This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
