While they are neither powerful nor majestic, rabbits have been revered, respected, and honored since ancient times. Admired for their speed, agility, and endurance, various cultures have featured these small, vulnerable creatures prominently in their myths, legends, and folktales. Occasionally regarded as wily tricksters, rabbits also have been celebrated as sacred animals, self-sacrificing heroes, and sympathetic characters. Stories frequently endow them with special gifts and magical powers, and they are often associated with innocence, fertility, creation, rebirth, and good luck.
Some of the most captivating and fascinating narratives, however, link a rabbit with the moon. These tales are inspired by those full-moon nights when the shadowy markings on the lunar surface create the image of a rabbit.
Tapeti - The Moon's Keeper tells such a story!
Tapeti is just a plain, ordinary rabbit who wants to win a competition. He learns about the importance of hard work, determination, and kindness-and how these qualities can help you to achieve a goal.
He also learns that it is not how you look that matters, but what you do that counts.
Tapeti discovers the real value of his efforts-and how sometimes success, even when it is mixed with a few missteps and mistakes, can lead to dramatic changes.
Visible on the moon's surface, Tapeti's shadow reminds both people and rabbits to work hard, to be kind to one another, and to live in harmony.
