Tangled Dreams is a seductive tale of family secrets, forbidden love, and mystical revelations--a work of literary/commercial fiction and magical realism with a love story at its heart.
When I said marriage is not for you, I had my reasons.
Dr. Jocelyn Kendall awakens in her Boston hotel room to the sound of her dead mother's voice. Disappointed in romance and overlooked for a well-deserved promotion as a professor of cultural anthropology. The haunting message from her mother reminds Jocelyn of the family secrets her mother took to her grave...
Tangled Dreams is Delores Lowe Friedman's second novel, and it is historically grounded in current times and in the past. I read Delores's first novel, Wildflowers and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of Ms. Friedman's gifts is her ability to create characters, places and circumstances that are real and alive to the reader. Once you begin reading, you are living in her character's world. You live there with them. You get to know what they think and feel. She invites you into their world and you see what they see, feel what they feel, and how their thoughts and understandings grow and change. Her writing is sensual and compelling.
This story is about women, living today and yesterday. Her descriptions of their interactions, through their dialogue and thoughts, leads you to think about the choices we as women make, and how the women of long ago may have felt in the challenges met.
Delores Lowe Friedman has a glorious gift for placing us in characters' shoes, and having us walk in the paths they walk and in the time in which they live. You will not be able to stop reading Tangled Dreams. As a woman, you will want to talk about the issues it raises with friends. Most importantly, it will be a thrilling, great read! Myrna M.
