Talks with Athenian Youths is a book that consists of translations of five dialogues written by the philosopher Plato. The dialogues included in this book are Charmides, Lysis, Laches, Euthydemus, and Theaetetus. Each of these dialogues features Socrates engaging in discussions with young Athenians on various philosophical topics. In Charmides, Socrates discusses the nature of temperance with Charmides, a young man known for his good looks. In Lysis, Socrates talks with two young friends, Lysis and Menexenus, about the meaning of friendship. In Laches, Socrates converses with two generals, Laches and Nicias, about the nature of courage. In Euthydemus, Socrates debates with two sophists, Euthydemus and Dionysodorus, on the topic of knowledge. And finally, in Theaetetus, Socrates discusses the nature of knowledge with a young mathematician named Theaetetus. These dialogues are considered some of Plato's most important works and are still studied today for their insights into ancient Greek philosophy. Talks with Athenian Youths provides readers with an accessible and engaging way to explore these dialogues and the ideas they contain. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
