Tales From The Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum (PIPM) is a rollicking collection of social media posts from one of the oldest established museums in Northwest Oklahoma. This book is comprised of collective social media posts from 2016 to 2022. Faced with an increasingly critical need to appeal to a new audience, the nearly daily posts began in 2016 and are done with articles printed in old newspapers. These posts have played a large part in increasing the Muse's footprint and outreach. The old newspaper articles are reprinted here just as they would have been read one hundred (or more) years ago.
The bulk of these posts were written by Robin Hohweiler during his tenure as assistant curator/social media guy (an actual title)/executive director of the Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum in Woodward, Oklahoma. Robin, or Mr. Robin, as he insists we all call him, developed a formula for translating these old newspaper articles into readable social media posts. First came the introduction that provides context, followed by the article itself, followed by the stinger... a few, sometimes several, lines of humor, snark, and/or wildly made-up stories to close things out. We refer to this as a curated collection because the editors chose to include in these pages those social media posts that most clearly define the history of this region and its people. There simply wasn't room for each and every one. If you're a longtime follower of the Museum's social media posts, we're certain that you'll find your favorites here. All money raised from the sale of these books go directly to the general operating funds of The Plains Indians & Pioneers Museum. This was Robin and Mikel's first collaboration. Given that both are only slightly bloodied, but remain vertical, it likely won't be their last.
