Tables to Find the Standard or Fine Weights of Gold and Silver is a comprehensive guidebook that was first published in 1854 by George Ure Adam. The book is primarily aimed at those who are involved in the precious metal trade, such as goldsmiths, jewelers, and merchants. It contains a wealth of information on the standard and fine weights of gold and silver, as well as the conversion of English assays into foreign equivalents and foreign assays into English equivalents. The book is divided into several sections, each of which covers a different aspect of the precious metal trade. The first section provides an overview of the different weights and measures used in the trade, including troy ounces, pennyweights, and grains. It also explains how to calculate the value of gold and silver based on their weight and purity. The second section of the book contains tables that show the standard and fine weights of gold and silver, as well as the corresponding values in pounds, shillings, and pence. These tables are essential for anyone involved in buying or selling precious metals, as they provide a quick and easy way to calculate the value of a particular piece. The third section of the book deals with the conversion of English assays into foreign equivalents and vice versa. This is important for those who deal with international trade, as different countries often have different standards for the purity of gold and silver.Overall, Tables to Find the Standard or Fine Weights of Gold and Silver is a valuable resource for anyone involved in the precious metal trade. Its clear and concise tables and explanations make it an essential tool for calculating the value of gold and silver, and for navigating the complex world of international trade. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
